Deus Ex: Retrospective
Once every decade, a game saunters by your desk, grabs you by the scruff of the neck, and slaps you around like an unwanted stepchild. Deus Ex was, and still is, that game. Serious and compelling from the start, it forces you to make crucial moral and political choices that impact your relationship with other characters and ultimately the eventual outcome.
The series has one more sequel (Deus Ex: IW) that somehow manages to be a faint shadow of the first iteration. I highly discourage anyone from wasting their time with the second one; stick to the original.
Deus Ex was never known for its graphics even on release, and it definitely shows its age. Rather, it continues to stand out for its immersive gameplay and superb writing. An interesting behind the scenes look can be found here.
