PC Games: Humble Indie Bundle
If you enjoy unique games and have an appreciation for independent artistic efforts slightly outside the control of EA, I encourage you take advantage of an opportunity called The Humble Indie Bundle.
The bundle includes:
All games are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Like the indie label suggests, these are designed by independent developers, which usually means a couple of guys coding away in an office or garage. World of Goo is a quirky puzzler that uses physics to force the player into problem solving scenarios. Older players will be reminded of the “retro” sensation Lemmings. It’s a bit hard to explain, but it’s engagingly amusing with some memorable moments. Aquaria is an side-scrolling action/adventure game with striking hand-drawn graphics, soothing soundtrack, and a storybook atmosphere. It’s a satisfying departure from the typical Halo and Call of Duty fare. Sadly, I can’t comment on the other three games, as I have not had the opportunity to try them yet.
However, the best part about all of this is the price. You pay whatever you want, meaning through Paypal/Google Checkout/Amazon you can designate whatever amount you think the games are worth. You can also designate a certain amount to charity during the checkout process. For the ultra-cheap out there, I would advise giving more than a few pennies. After all, there are service charges for the developers on the transactions and bandwidth. For those that do decide to purchase, keep it mind that this is not a digital service like Steam. The deal is active for about 3 and half more days. It would be wise to make a backup of the installation files, since there’s no simple way to re-download them in the future. World of Goo and Aquaria are both individually worth at least 5 bucks in my opinion, which basically makes this deal a no-brainer.
